About Us

We have been operating the Wagon Wheel Motel since July 2023. This is a late career change for us.

Allana was once a teacher and vice principal who worked for over 30 years in Victoria Education. She had a break for 10 months working as executive assistant to the manager of the Sydney Olympics venues transport manager, followed by 5 years operating her own health food stores, and then she joined Bob for a few years in Afghanistan as office manager, living at the NATO military base at Kabul airport.

Bob spent a total of 33 years in the Army, with breaks in service that included athletes' village transport manager for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Leaving the Army, Bob then worked in Afghanistan as country manager for a Danish fuel company and an Afghan fuel company, responsible for providing fuel to NATO forces. When Bob was evacuated from Kabul with refugees escaping the Taliban in August 2021, he knew it was time to do something different.

Allana relaxes by doing volunteer work with the QLD Family History Society, where she was president for two years. Allana's mother comes from this region. Bob has dabbled in breeding racehorses - slow ones!.

During our time here in friendly Cloncurry, we have met interesting and wonderful guests, many of whom visit Cloncurry on a regular basis. 

Having travelled quite extensively, we are keen to provide a comfortable stay in this "character" motel.
